Lastly, a young man was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, which lead to his blindness by the age of 40. Retinitis pigmentosa is an incurable eye disease that is reflective of retina damage.
The president of a vision loss prevention organization stated that as the population ages, approximately 60 million Americans will be at high risk of vision loss. This is a shocking figure especially considering that many people skip optometry appointments. Early detection of eye disorders and diseases can lessen the severity of issues and, at times, prevent them entirely.
