1. Take a Daily Walk or Exercise

Always good advice, taking a daily walk or performing daily exercise is also great for your overall eye health. By participating in daily physical activity you'll help reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease, which both put you at higher risk for chronic eye disease. 
 

2. Keep a Healthy Weight and Eat Your Fruits and Veggies

Our emergency eye doctor says this is perhaps the most important tip to follow if you're serious about keeping your eyes healthy. Those who are overwight or obese put themselves at risk of developing elevated blood pressure or inflammation, two things that are extremely detrimental to your eye health. In addition to keeping a healthy weight, it's important to eat your fruits and veggies if you want your eyes to be at their best. Colourful ones like carrots and spinach are great for eye health, as are those foods which contain a lot of omega-3 fatty acids. 
 

3. Don't Touch or Rub Your Eyes Often

This tip aligns well with all the advice we've been hearing when it comes to not touching your face during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anytime you touch your eyes you put them at risk of becoming infected. You don't want to rub your eyes too often or too aggressively either. Doing so could cause you to scratch your cornea. If you happen to get something caught in your eye, do your best to flush it out with a saline solution. 4. Wear Your Sunglasses

Aside from looking cool, sunglasses are awesome at protecting your eyes from the damaging effects of UVA and UVB rays. These rays can lead to macular degeneration or cataracts, and with all the snow we get up here, UVA and UVB rays are magnified during the winter months thanks to the reflective properties of the white stuff. 
 

5. Don't Smoke

This advice is great for many reasons, but it's especially helpful when it comes to your eyes. Studies have shown that smoking can lead to vision loss by increasing your risk of developing age-related eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts.
