What is Glaucoma?
Glaucoma is a progressive medical condition that causes damage to the eye’s optic nerve caused by elevated pressure inside the eye. It is the second-leading cause of blindness.
What causes Glaucoma?
Glaucoma occurs when fluids inside an eye cannot circulate normally in the front part of the eye, resulting in pressure buildup and nerve finer damage. The cause of glaucoma is unknown. If left untreated, it can lead to blindness.
How do you detect Glaucoma?
Majority of patients with glaucoma have no early signs and therefore it is highly advisable to have routine eye examinations. During your routine eye examinations, specific tests are performed to measure the internal pressure of the eye.
How do you treat Glaucoma?
Unfortunately once vision is lost due to glaucoma, it cannot be restored. However there are different ways to maintain vision levels with eye drops and laser surgery.
